Beach House Signs to Sub Pop

Coming to existence in 2005 out of Baltimore, Maryland, Beach House's somewhat comatose indie-pop ballads have allured many in the music blogosphere. Within their four year existence, their album Devotion has made many 'Best of 2008' lists, and with such success has come their decision to shift labels from Washington, D.C., label Carpark, to fecund Washington, Seattle, record label Sub Pop. Beach House has plans to release a new LP in early 2010 that was recorded out in Woodstock, NY, with well known producer Chris Coady (!!!, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). The duo will be playing Bottom of the Hill in S.F. on October 19th, right before they kick off their tour with Grizzly Bear the next day in Hollywood, Ca. Check out their video for the mesmerizing song "Master of None," from their 2006 self titled album:

Julian Casablanca's first Interview in 3 Years
News in Brief: Radiohead, Built to Spill
Built to Spill has a new LP titled There is No Enemy, to be released on Warner Bros. October 6th. When Doug Martsch talked to Pitchfork a few months back he had this to say about the new album:"There might be some things that were influenced by soul music, but it all just sounds like Built to Spill guitar music. We play the music that we can naturally play." I'm sure it won't disappoint if you are a BTS fan. Here is the track list:
There Is No Enemy:
01 Aisle 13
02 Hindsight
03 Nowhere Lullaby
04 Good Ol' Boredom
05 Life's a Dream
06 Oh Yeah
07 Pat
08 Done
09 Planting Seeds
10 Things Fall Apart
11 Tomorrow

Kool Keith @ Mezzanine SF 02.26.09
Kool Keith, a.k.a. Dr. Octagon, a.k.a. Black Elvis, a.k.a. Mr. Nagatco will be forever “armed with seven rounds of space doo doo pistols.” Composing fat old school beats with nuevo school revelation, “Kool” Keith Thorton has more monikers than T.I. got kids; rapping since 1988 when he rocked decks and mics with the Ultramagnetic MC’s. I shot a few pictures at the Mezzanine SF where he brought his peculiar supernatural flows and his surprisingly non-anomalous stage presence. In a 10 minute show interlude he proceeded in inviting all the fine ladies on stage to put on dollar tree underwear, followed by the dispersing of black porno magazine pages. He busted out with the favorites like “Halfsharkalligatorhalfman,” and “Blue Flowers,” but with so many monikers and albums it was somewhat foreseen he would play a twenty minute mash up of his copious songs. Ahhh well; an entertainingly boisterous show none the less. And now I leave you with my favorite Kool Keith lyric: “Your panties’ are wet. Take it easy, don’t sweat. You want some birth control? You can smoke a cigarette,” from the song “Girl Let Me Touch You.” Raps' most diabolical!

Deerhunter "Microcastle" Review & live pictures @ Mezzanine and Rickshaw Stop SF
Soft drones push through the speakers as Deerhunter’s Microcastle spins its' vibrations out. The atmospheric sounds swift through the air in the form of spacey vocals; sounding off heavily with reverb and delay, creating a beautiful shoegaze melody. The albums’ most note worthy songs, “Agoraphobia” and “Never Stops,” are minimal yet driving as they play in succesion. The songs that follow hinder in to whispered vocals that seemingly slow down time as ambient instruments create simple tones that are eerily euphoric. The ninth track on Microcastle is another enterprising track with a weighty bass line that ends with a nearly three minute abstract jam out. This album is for those who appreciate stone-e shoegaze with psychedelic undertones; good music to get high or space out in a dream to.
Recommended listening: Atlas Sound, Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective
